Family Diversity and Business Start-Up: Do Family Meals Feed the Fire of Entrepreneurship?

Integrating the family embeddedness perspective with research on commensality and meals, we develop a framework that explains why some families are more likely to fuel entrepreneurship than others. Inspired by diversity literature role of Chinese Confucian culture in shaping dynamics, explore how two demographic (i.e., age gender) knowledge-based education industry) sources within households predict member starting business. We further theorize these relationships contingent frequency as meals serve conduit for affects providing setting where socialization interaction take place. Using data from representative sample 8,162 individuals via China Family Panel Studies 2014 2018 period, our findings demonstrate although greater gender hamper entrepreneurship, “feed fire” industry diversity.
